Abstract

Extended Abstract

Introduction and Objectives: In today’s world, effective communication skills play a crucial role in improving the quality of family life. Given the complexities of modern life and the challenges families face, the ability to communicate correctly and effectively is recognized as an essential skill for maintaining and strengthening family bonds. Since the prevailing culture in our country is rooted in religious and ethical teachings, utilizing the book Nahj al-Balagha provides a suitable foundation for nurturing these skills. This research aims to design an efficient model for enhancing communication skills within families by extracting concepts and principles from Nahj al-Balagha. The model includes various methods, such as improving dialogue skills, active listening, and conflict resolution. Due to the insufficient focus on utilizing the teachings of Nahj al-Balagha to strengthen communication skills in families, this research seeks to address a significant gap in the scientific literature. It aims to extract solutions and a model from Nahj al-Balagha as an inspiring source to enhance healthy interpersonal relationships that can be applied by individuals and families. Through improving communication, the goal is to elevate the quality of family life and create a warm and vibrant environment. Ultimately, this process can also contribute to the development of other skills, such as problem-solving and emotional management. This research is significant in promoting a comprehensive understanding of effective communication within the context of family dynamics.
Method: To develop a model for enhancing communication skills within families inspired by the teachings of Nahj al-Balagha, a grounded theory approach was utilized as a qualitative research strategy. This method allows researchers to delve deeper into data analysis and gain a better understanding of social phenomena. In this study, the coding process included initial coding, axial coding, and selective coding. Ultimately, 30 codes were identified that contributed to the analysis and description of family communications. The causal conditions and contextual factors affecting communication were considered as core categories. These categories form the central framework of the paper and assist in identifying appropriate strategies and approaches for strengthening communication skills within families. Additionally, the outcomes of the developed model were examined in this process. To ensure the validity and reliability of the results, an independent coding strategy was employed. Several expert researchers performed the coding independently, and codes that received consensus from over 90% of the coders were ultimately agreed upon as valid and credible. This process enhanced the accuracy and credibility of the research findings and contributed to the establishment of a robust model for improving communication skills within families. By integrating these insights, the research aims to provide a comprehensive framework that can guide families in developing effective communication practices, drawing inspiration from the rich teachings found in Nahj al-Balagha.
Results: The findings of the research indicate that strengthening friendship and patience in the face of challenges can significantly impact the relationships among spouses and family members. During difficult and adverse times, maintaining good morals and pleasant behavior can serve as a key factor in improving relationships. Expressing affection and effectively communicating with one another, both emotionally and meaningfully, not only reduces tensions but also increases feelings of closeness and solidarity. Additionally, mutual understanding and respect are fundamental principles of any family that can contribute to the growth and development of society. Emphasizing the importance of family as the core of nurturing and raising individuals plays a vital role in establishing healthy and sustainable relationships. Maintaining family ties and strengthening familial connections help families stand firm against challenges and utilize patience and mutual understanding as tools to navigate crises. In this context, enhancing trust and commitment among family members is also of great significance. Promoting understanding and collaboration among families can foster a safe and supportive environment where each member feels valued and a sense of belonging. Consequently, these factors lead to the establishment and preservation of a strong and committed family capable of confronting life’s problems and challenges. By focusing on these principles, families can cultivate resilience and unity, ensuring their overall well-being and stability.
Discussion and conclusion: The results indicate that the teachings of Nahj al-Balagha can be utilized as a rich resource for improving communication skills. These teachings emphasize the importance of promoting the etiquette of speaking and mutual respect, making it essential to raise individuals’ awareness about understanding and respect in family relationships for the establishment of healthy and constructive connections. Paying attention to family and valuing it as the core of life is among the key aspects . Encouraging the search for common ground and maintaining good ethics, especially during challenging times, can strengthen emotional bonds. Keeping promises in relationships reflects the commitment and affection of family members, while patience in facing challenges contributes to the family’s stability. Utilizing customs and traditions, particularly regarding maintaining familial ties, enhances the sense of belonging and mutual support among family members. These factors not only improve the quality of family relationships but also contribute to the creation of a healthy and committed society. Consequently, this model emphasizes the necessity of focusing on family as the foundational element of society and promoting effective communication skills to enhance family relationships and foster a warm and loving environment. Through these efforts, we can work towards building stronger familial bonds and a more supportive community.
