Purpose: Faith and piety are two important grade of religiosity, and the goal of religious education is to help the teacher to reach the grade of faith and then the grade of piety. The purpose of this article is to extract the key features of faith and piety by relying on the verses of the Qur'an and the traditions of the Prophet (pbuh) and its implications for formulating a comprehensive approach to religious education.
Research Method: The research method in discovering the indicators of faith and piety is the thematic interpretation method and in extracting the educational implications is the deductive method. First, the verses regarding faith and piety are identified and their meanings are extracted. Then, the family of verses is formed to understand the separate evidence in order to accurately understand the meanings of the verses. Finally, the meanings and themes are classified and organized, and the indicators of faith and piety are obtained. Based on these indicators, the educational implications and the pillars of the comprehensive approach are deduced.
Research findings: Faith has two indicators: a heartfelt faith based on essential knowledge and adherence to basic teachings, and piety has four main indicators: sure faith based on deep and sure knowledge, complete adherence to teachings, honesty, and rectitude. From these indicators, an approach to religious education can be reached that is a comprehensive approach and encompasses all dimensions of human existence, including cognition, emotion, and behavior. This approach to religious education has four basic pillars: awareness and thought-provoking, mastery over negative desires and tendencies, cultivating honesty, and cultivating rectitude.
