Abstract

The present study aimed to conduct a comparative study of parenting education curricula in Canada (British Columbia, Ontario), Scotland, the United States (Virginia, Illinois, Michigan), and Jamaica; in order to benefit from the experiences of these countries. The approach used in the research is qualitative and comparative, and because the countries under study have paid special attention to parenting education in their curricula, they were selected using purposive sampling. The data were collected based on a systematic search in reputable databases inside and outside the country and documents available on educational sites in those countries, and were described, interpreted, juxtaposed, and compared using the George Brady model. A review of the school-based efforts of the aforementioned countries in the field of parenting education showed that this education is considered a factor in improving the physical and mental well-being of students at the present time and a prelude to training a number of effective parents in the future. Although raising children in the aforementioned countries is considered to require comprehensive preparation of the individual along with acceptance of challenging and lifelong responsibilities, some countries have acted differently due to their emphasis on decision-making and problem-solving skills. The ultimate goal of this study is to place the topic of parenting education in the broader context of education in the country and to draw the attention of educational policymakers to develop a comprehensive parenting education curriculum, considering the current challenges of the family institution in the country.
