Abstract

The creation and harmonious and balanced development of the dimensions of adolescent identity is always one of the most important concerns of educational systems. One of the most widely used educational tools is textbooks. The main issue of this research is the content analysis of "identity studies" in junior and senior high school textbooks in order to determine what teachings the education system has explicitly and transparently considered for the most important issue of adolescence, which is the issue of identity. This research is library-based in terms of data collection, critical and decision-making in terms of approach, and based on content analysis in terms of method. In this research, all junior high school textbooks and all common books in most disciplines in senior high school in the academic year 1402-1403 were examined. The results showed that the network of identity studies themes in the selected books consists of four major categories: "what is identity", "how is identity", "individual identity", and "social identity". In terms of comprehensiveness, identity studies in the selected books do not provide a comprehensive view for students. Regarding the power of overlap, the results showed that the overlap necessary to form a network of identity has not occurred, at least at the level of educational concepts. Also, in terms of up-to-dateness and efficiency, the topic of digital identity or online identity, which is needed by adolescents, has been neglected.
